Arranger/Composer

Since 2018, Wilson has been operating as a commissioned, freelance, contemporary vocal arranger. Wilson has been fortunate enough to work with some of the top contemporary vocal ensembles in the country, including the 2023 International Collegiate Champions of A Cappella, “The Pitchmen” from Belmont University. Wilson got his start as an arranger at Center Grove High School, where he founded the school’s all-male a cappella group, and assisted in arranging for the show choir department under the mentorship of Greg Sanders. Since then, Wilson has expanded his skillset and network to form dozens of collaborative relationships in the worlds of a cappella and show choir. Wilson spent his time in college music directing “The Pitchmen,” as well as singing with and arranging for “Jazzmin,” the school’s top vocal jazz ensemble. Wilson was acknowledged by Varsity Vocals 4 times as an “Outstanding Arrangement” award winner throughout his time competing in ICCAs. Since working as an arranger, several of Wilson’s collaborative ensembles have received winning and top 3 placements in their contests as well as numerous captions and special awards. In the 2023 season, two of Wilson’s a cappella sets were represented on the international finals stage (Pitchmen in ICCA, 16th Street Soul in ICHSA).

Testimonials

  • I chose Wilson Smith to arrange several charts for my group [Limited Edition] this year. I was impressed that he took the time to talk through song options, listen to our group's sound, then arrange with a focus on our group's strengths. The entire process was very collaborative and enjoyable. Best of all, he completed all of the charts on time and to the quality/standard that I expected. Wilson is an arranger I will keep on my short list of "arrangers I want to continue working with" for future years.

  • Wilson Smith is one of the most dynamic new arrangers working today. He writes with a keen understanding of the voice at all levels, from beginning level school groups to seasoned professionals. His arrangements are exciting and inventive, always mixing fresh takes on familiar material. My groups love singing his charts.

    Mr. Greg Sanders

(Vocal Director, Indianpolis Symphony Orchestra/Indianapolis Men’s Chorus and Arranger, Center Grove Choirs)

  • Wilson has an understanding of music that is way beyond his years on Earth. The breadth and beauty of his arrangements are captivating and draw attention to the performers. He listens to what the singer does best and he knows exactly how to approach them in the song. Wilson meets the singers right where they are and knows exactly how to help them stand out in the best way possible.
