Director/Clinician

Wilson’s multitude of talents come together most fluidly when he’s in front of an ensemble. With over 7 years of music directing experience between contemporary a cappella, show choir, musical theatre, producing records, and various section leader responsibilities, Wilson brings a diverse and versatile perspective to the rehearsal setting. Between his experience as a solo and ensemble vocalist, his knowledge as a composer, and his ability to energize, motivate, and inspire a group, Wilson can guarantee an effective masterclass with your ensemble.

While making the sheet music is one part of the task, Wilson strives to be more than that with his collaborators. Wilson’s goal is to form a meaningful relationship with the clients he writes arrangements for, and to ensure that the intention, style, and energy of the arrangement translates to the rehearsal process. Whether you want a fully customized, hands-on masterclass for a custom arrangement, or you just need an extra set of ears on your ensemble before a high stakes performance, your group will leave a masterclass with Wilson Smith as more equipped and empowered musicians.

In the 2022-2023 season, Wilson got his start as a judge and festival clinician. Recently, Wilson has judged both the Mississippi Show Choir Contest and The Arabian Spectacular at Pendleton Heights High School (IN). On the a cappella side, Wilson served as a head clinician at “Acapocalypse” In Port Washington, Wisconsin while also coaching and traveling with several of his groups throughout the competition season. Wilson is available for both in-person, and remote masterclass opportunities. For rates, availability, and inquiries regarding clinician, judging, and producing work, visit the “Contact” tab above.

(Director of Choirs, Center Grove HS)

  • Wilson is an impeccable arranger, director, musician, and visionary. While all of these things make him a true musical phenom in my eyes, Wilson’s most remarkable talent is his innate ability to bring out the best in others. Whether it be his college group of 4 years, or a high school group whom he has spent an hour with, I have seen him take countless groups from mediocrity to excellence. Wilson leaves students feeling more confident in their abilities, and excited and motivated to make great music. Everything Wilson touches truly turns to gold.
